Rigo Concept BRIDGING COURSE

Physiotherapists who have C2 certification and wish to attend Level 3, to obtain the new Rigo Concept treatment evolutions and knowledge, may do so upon completion of this 3 day Bridging course.

 

Dear PT colleagues, 

Due to the interest that many of you have expressed to us and with the aim of updating your knowledge in the treatment that you offer to patients with scoliosis and/or spinal disorders, we have organized a 3-day theoretical-practical course to be able to transmit to you the evolution of technique and concept according to our school.
This course will allow you, after presenting and passing a Case Report following the Guidelines of the School, to access directly to the L3 course. 

The course program will address the following topics:

  • History of the BSPTS, evolution towards Rigo Concept.
  • Psycho-Social Model in the treatment of scoliosis and other spinal disorders.
  • Knowledge Spheres.
  • Clinical Classification according to Rigo Concept and its Radiological correspondence.
  • General Principles of the BSPTS:
    • Postural correction
    • Expansion Technique
    • Muscle Activation
    • Integration
  • Specific Principles of Correction:
    • Self-elongation
    • Sagittal Straightening
    • Alignment in the frontal plane
  • Description of the correction layout in the different Clinical Types.
  • Practical application in the base exercises in unloading and loading.
  • Advanced exercises

BSPTS NORTH AMERICA Region

The United States BSPTS Instructors have a strong history together.  Our experience as individual Schroth clinicians dates back to as early as 2004. After years of clinical practice, we began teaching courses under the curriculum of Dr. Rigo in 2010. We started our first US cooperative teaching group (Scoliosis Education Seminars) in 2013, which became Schroth Barcelona Institute, LLC in 2016. Schroth Barcelona Institute (SBI) now represents BSPTS – US group of instructors.

The SBI instructors have made great strides in the US to improve the education on quality, cost effective treatment for patients with scoliosis. SBI has held  62 courses for C1, 34 courses for C2, and as of the end of 2019, we have certified nearly 300 C1 therapists and over 250  C2 therapists. SBI students rate our courses highly for the organized and professional teaching style of the instructors. There are a growing number of US institutions sending therapists to SBI courses in order to implement high quality scoliosis care into their facilities.

In addition to having offered BSPTS curriculum to physical therapists,  SBI further promotes education for all health care professionals through short courses, university lectures, presentations at health care institutions, and courses at professional meetings such as the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA).  All of the instructors have been active members and strong participants in the Society of Scoliosis Orthopedic Rehabilitation and Treatment (SOSORT).   SBI also stays connected in the scoliosis community through Facebook, Linked-In, our quarterly newsletters to past students, and through our website https://www.schroth-barcelonainstitute.com

SBI currently has 4 US instructors. We teach our courses at our own local clinics and at host facilities around the country. We have monthly Skype meetings and annual in-person instructor retreats to stay connected and continue to improve the quality of our courses. We are supported by our part-time administrator who manages our website, and by our course lab and teaching assistants.

EDUCATIONAL PROGRAME

To be physiotherapist specialized in scoliosis and other spinal disorders

General Objectives of the BSPTS-Concept by Rigo certification course:

  • Give the physiotherapist specific information and knowledge about scoliosis (assessment, natural history, prognosis and treatment) to become a qualified member of a multidisciplinary team according to SOSORT Guidelines.
  • Encourage thinking and critical/constructive reasoning when facing the different theories on the causes and development of scoliosis, the assessment systems and the treatment strategies, mainly non-surgical (Rehabilitation and Bracing).

Basic knowledge on scoliosis and other alterations of the spine

ONLINE course

Addressed to all health professionals interested in acquiring specific basic knowledge on scoliosis and other spinal disorders.

INFO ABOUT CEUs

 

About the CEUs for the Base course.

In person, the Base is considered a 24 hr. credit course. Currently the Base is online only. Each state APTA determines what they will accept for CEUs (online and in person courses).

You would have to go to your state chapter or PT governing body to find the criteria for course acceptance.

Your state will also tell you what additional info is needed to apply.
