Rigo Concept BSPTS Level 1
From November 14-19, 2022 we met in San Jose, California, for the Rigo Concept BSPTS Level 1 course. The course was hosted by Nancy Sherratt, PT at Scoliosis Rehab, Physical Therapy of California. Beth Janssen, PT was the instructor. This course focuses on understanding the 3D nature of scoliosis, evaluation techniques-both clinically and radiologically and PT Scoliosis Specific Exercises. The Barcelona Scoliosis Physical Therapy School (BSPTS) uses the Rigo Classification System in order to standardize treatment categories. The Rigo Concept-BSPTS is one of the recognized schools teaching PT Scoliosis Specific Exercises as defined by Society of Scoliosis Rehabilitation and Treatment (SOSORT)
We spent 6 days together learning about the 3D nature of scoliosis, and sagittal plane problems including Scheuermann’s Kyphosis and Juvenile Kyphosis. We learned how to evaluate the patient clinically and radiologically to find the appropriate curve classification according to the Rigo Concept. We studied each curve pattern and practiced the 3D Postural Corrections in various starting positions.
We experienced the Expansion principle on ourselves and each other. There was time provided for kinesthetic learners to practice techniques and positions. Demonstrations on real patients were observed. We had review sessions daily to highlight the most important aspects of the evaluation and treatment using the Rigo Concept. It was a very good learning experience with a small group size.
