Borislav Chongov, Base Level, Sofia, Bulgaria
From February 9 to 11, 2024, a Base Course was held by BSPTS (Barcelona Scoliosis Physical Therapeutic School) The Rigo Concept. The host of the course was USBALO “Prof. Boycho Boychev” (the university specialized hospital for active treatment in orthopaedics) for which we would like to express our gratitude. The course was of a high academic standard. The lecturer was Borislav Chongov, doctor. Physiotherapists from all over Bulgaria took part and were given the right to participate in the subsequent Level 1 courses of Rigo’s BSPTS concept. We wish the colleagues success in applying the knowledge gained in the treatment of spinal conditions (a term that, according to SOSORT recommendations, should replace “spinal distortions” and “spinal deformities”) and in particular scoliosis. You can rely on them, both as specialists in Sofia, as well as in Shumen, and Stara Zagora, Kyustendil and Kavala, Greece. The main subjects in which physiotherapists were trained are:
Normal development of the spine in relation to the pelvic indices;
Typical diseases in infantile, juvenile and adolescent age;
Etiopathogenesis of scoliosis;
Natural course and nature of scoliosis in the three planes;
4D treatment of spinal conditions and familiarization with the bio-psycho-social model of behaviour;
Evidence-informed medicine and the SOSORT guidelines;
Basic principles, specific principles and predetermined correction strategies according to the Rigo classification for the application of specific physiotherapy exercises in scoliosis (SPFS);
Schroth’s principles of treatment and their development in Rigo’s concept;
Principles and indications for the application of the corset treatment in connection with the Rigo-Cheneau concept;
Indications and types of surgical treatment;
The need for psychological support and knowledge upgrading.
This course is a small step towards improving the quality of physiotherapists in Bulgaria and is part of the training program of AFB (Association of Physiotherapists in Bulgaria).
